Welcome to the New Year!

Welcome to the New Year!

Now that 2021 is behind us, it is an excellent time to review your records and Request to Dispose of any that are eligible. The start of the year is also a good time to review your internal Records Management Plan and Inventory and make any updates, if needed. How have your records changed this year? Are you still creating those records as paper? Where are you storing your records? Does everyone in your department know their responsibilities regarding the records they create and manage?

Consultations and Trainings Available

RIMS has virtual consultations available upon request through our Request for Consultation Form. We are happy to meet with you to answer any records questions you may have.

RIMS is also happy to provide training to your unit or department upon request. Departmental group training can be a great way to make sure everyone is on the same page and feels more comfortable with managing their records.

April will be Records Management Month

April is National Records Management Month, and RIMS will be celebrating this April with an event for DRMCs as well as the launch of several new tools and guides! The event will be held virtually on April 15th from 2pm-3pm. A recording of the event will be played on April 22nd from 10am-11am with the RIMS team present to answer any questions you may have. More information about the event and how to sign up will be available soon.

Records Management Training

Records and Information Management Services (RIMS) has scheduled sessions in UT Learn for records management training. We offer two Zoom courses:

1) IG 101: Records and Information Management for Department Record Managers, a 2-hour class with hands-on experience, which is required for DRMCs but open to all who have records management responsibilities

2) IG 103: Records and Information Management: What Everyone Needs to Know about University Records, a 1-hour class recommended for everyone else at the university.

Visit our website to learn more about the records and information management training courses, or visit UT Learn to find and register for one of the available sessions.

Working Remotely

Flexible work arrangements are here to stay. More of us will be working remotely at least some of the time, and we will all be using more paperless processes. No matter where we are, when we work, or how rarely we use paper, we will continue to create official records in both paper and electronic formats that must be managed appropriately and in compliance with university policy. University Records Guidance While Working Remotely provides useful information for managing university records; it is linked as a new quick guide from our home page.
