Records and Information Management Services training is available in UTLearn. Classes are taught virtually via videoconference or in-person; each class session in UTLearn will identify the location or technology.
IG101: Records and Information Management for Departmental Record Management Contacts (DRMCs)
About the Class
- This 1.5-hour class provides an overview of records and information management at the university for department records managers.
- Attendees will be introduced to university records management requirements, practices, and procedures, including identifying, managing, imaging, retaining, and disposing of university records.
- The class includes an introduction to the tools and resources used in managing university records, including the: University of Texas at Austin Records Retention Schedule (UTRRS) Records Inventory, Records Management Plan, and Request to Dispose of Records.
Who Should Take the Class
- This course is required for Department Records Managers and Departmental Records Management Contacts (DRMCs).
- Each university department, center, or unit is required to designate at least one DRMC in the Organizational Hierarchy System (OHS) through the designation request form
- Each contact is required to take IG101 at least once upon being designated a DRMC
- NOTE: Previous attendance in both RIMS101 and RIMS102 meets this requirement
- Staff who wish to have a deeper understanding of records management procedures and tools may attend this class instead of IG103.

IG103: Records and Information Management: What Everyone Needs to Know about University Records
About the Class
- This one-hour class provides an overview of records and information management at UT Austin and is intended to help all university community members understand their responsibilities for managing state records.
- Attendees will be introduced to university records management requirements, practices, and procedures.
Who Should Take the Class
- Anyone interested in records management policies or procedures
- Staff who play a significant role in managing or creating records, such as HR or financial services
- Business owners and administrators responsible for business processes
- IT data managers or stewards and IT system or service owners

IG110: Learning the Records Lifecycle: A Hands-On Workshop on Classifying and Destroying University Records
About the Class
- This 3-hour, in-person class focuses on three key pieces of the records lifecycle: determining if something is a record, classifying records using the UT Records Retention Schedule (UTRRS), and determining when a record is eligible for disposition.
- Each piece of the lesson is paired with hands-on activities and classroom discussions to help participants immediately apply what they are learning.

- Anyone who would like more practice identifying records and where they fit on the schedule

- This 4-hour, in-person class helps you get started on creating a departmental records inventory by conducting information-gathering interviews and navigating the Records Inventory Workbook template.
- Attendees will learn the value of having a records inventory.
- The class emphasizes how to connect the UT Records Retention Schedule to records within University departments.
